NEWPORT TOWN CENTRE

CLIENT: NEWPORT CITY COUNCIL

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Our company carried out a £1.8m Public Realm scheme through the High Street within Newport City Centre. The scheme consisted of the removal of existing brick paviours and replacing them with granite sets to pedestrianised areas and the construction of a bus lane through the centre of the High Street using a macadam surface. The pedestrianised areas also incorporated loading bays for goods vehicles, drainage, new street furniture and signage.
Daily liaison with store owners was carried out to ensure disruption was kept to an absolute minimum so that businesses could continue to trade during the works. The High Street remained open to both vehicles and pedestrians during the works so careful planning and segregation was required. Regular site meetings were held with local authority representatives and utility contractors as the diversion of utility supplies were required along areas of the site in conjunction with our works.
